Cypriot art of the first millennium BCE is widely considered an awkward, provincial adaptation of both the art of the contemporary Near East and of contemporary Greece. This view is, of course, held principally by scholars who specialize in one or the other area. However examination of Cypriot art of the first millennium reveals an extraordinary richness and beauty that may at first appear strange but quickly becomes enthralling.
