Classical News From Denny Hall volume 45

As I come to the end of my first year as Chair of Classics at the University of Washington, It is a pleasure to share news of the Department, where compelling research and lively teaching advance knowledge and understanding of the culture, artifacts, literature and history of the ancient Greek and Roman world. We have spent the academic year 2015-16 in temporary quarters in Condon Hall while Denny Hall is being beautifully restored and rebuilt. As the elevator rises to our third floor quarters, we sometimes glimpse on the second floor Start-Up Hall, where teams of UW students and faculty and others work innovatively to connect cutting edge-research with the concerns of the modern world. We do some of that too!

We treasure our connections with alumni and alumnae and invite you to check our events page and join us for lectures and other events, to like us on Facebook and to share your updates with us. All of us in the Department are deeply grateful for the contributions and support that allow us to invest in people, ideas and opportunities that enliven and transform our understanding of the classical world and its legacy.

We are headed back to Denny Hall in September and look forward to another great year.

Professor and Chair
